Deraps family adopts highway

Family and friends of United States Marine Lance Corporal Leon Deraps, who was killed in Iraq in the line of duty on May 6, are shown on a two-mile strech of Highway 87 just south of Jamestown on Sunday, Nov. 26, which the family adopted in Leon's memory.

Family member Terry Cassil and family friend Jake Campbell were also present for the cleanup but are not shown.

Leon's sister Omie Johnson, Jamestown, said, “My sister Dawn contacted the highway department and we adopted a highway in honor of Leon. We met up Sunday afternoon and the girls took one side (of the highway) and the boys took the other side. It took us three hours to pick up the entire two miles. It was a beautiful afternoon to spend with my family and two wonderful friends. Thanks to all for a job well done!”
